[Biodiesel In Utah] Cheap Methanol, Possibly Good Oil Source, & Glycerin Disposal--your input wanted

I've been sitting on the sidelines for about a year, with the price of
Fuel and gasoline going up, I'm just about convinced to jump into the
home brewing.

Knowing the cost of the products and being able to calculate a "real"
cost per gallon would probably jump start me and help me take the
plunge.

Subject: [Biodiesel In Utah] Cheap Methanol, Possibly Good Oil Source,&
Glycerin Disposal--your input wanted

Hey all,

I've been speaking w/ a guy out of the Utah County area that's getting
ready to make some serious biodiesel soon.

As part of this project, he's looking to see if he can't help Utah
Biodiesel Homebrewers out by providing them w/ some way's to make
homebrewing here easier:

Namely:

1- Provide cheap methanol for us. Like near $1.25/gallon ($68.75/55
gallons).

He'd be buying large amounts of methanol in bulk quantities and said
he'd be willing to buy extra as part of his bulk shipments and sell it
to homebrewers in Utah. He's willing to dispense it in large or small
quantities depending on homebrewers needs

2- Provide a source of consistent quality oil at a small fee per gallon

As part of their need for LOTS of oil for their operation, they're
looking at way's to help us benefit as well by providing homebrewers
with a nice, consistent stock of good, clean used vegetable oil. They're
looking at partnering with several restaraunts. They've got lots of
trucks (he's from the trucking industry), access to all the barrels and
dispensing equipment needed, and are big enough to be able to collect
oil.

We're just tossing the idea around, but essentially, homebrewers in Utah
could possibly have the opportunity to purchase high quality, filtered &
screened oil from him at a relatively small price ($0.05 to $0.25 cents
per gallon).

3- A location to drop off glycerin

He'd be willing to offer us a place to also drop off our glycerin as we
make biodiesel. He's investigating way's to use the glycerin or even
sell it as crude glycerin on the market. He know's that it's one of our
problems here in Utah (a.k.a. the Health Department) and would fulfill
that need for us.

So, I'm interested in finding out how many of you would be interested in
some sort of a program such as that outlined? If so, what types of
pricing would you be willing to pay for waste veggie oil (assuming it's
high-quality, screened oil).

Biodiesel in Utah took off like a rocket about 2 years ago and has now
all but fizzled out due to the restrictions that the Salt Lake Health
Department and pressure from Renderer's to quit collecting oil have
caused.

This would negate those issues as it would allow the following:

1- Access to cheap methanol

2- Access to cheap (while not free, very very cheap) consistent high
grade veggie oil

3- Access to a glycerin drop-off facility

If you're interested, please email me at graydonblair at yahoo.com

I'm interested in how many of you would be willing to participate in
something like this. It'd help give biodiesel homebrewing a much needed
jump start again.

Thanks,

Graydon Blair
