[Biodiesel In Utah] Where do I get Diesel Emissions test done in Salt Lake

Look up or call Salt Lake County, Department of Motor
vehicles, or look for emission testing in the Salt
Lake County numbers. In Davis county, the county is
the only one who tests diesels, but in Salt Lake I
believe I saw a private company advertising they
tested diesels on their sign. All that is tested is
the opacity, which they do on a dynometer.
Maybe look in the yellow pages, too.
Good Luck
Max
P.S. It is surprising that California with their tough
emission laws doesn't test diesels. Sweet. We just had
a diesel Vanagon that didn't pass so I turned the
volume (power) screw out to cut the fuel a little.
Amost no emissions, but not enough power for the
dynometer. If you are concerned about passing, you
might try that. I'd just have someone follow you and
see if you are getting very much black smoke at hard
acceleration. Turn it down in 1/4 turn amounts just
til it just barely smokes. Remember the setting. If
you turn it too low like I did, not only won't you
have much power, but it will be hard to test on the
dyno.
1 and a half turn on ours made it so it wouln't run
past idle. I think I turned it out a little under one
full turn which was more than it needed. A little does
a lot.
